Skyrim How To Become A Werewolf Companions Quest Guide
Embracing the beast within is one of the most exciting character paths in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Transforming into a werewolf grants immense physical strength, increased movement speed, and total immunity to diseases. Players can unlock this powerful transformation by completing a specific questline with the legendary warrior guild known as The Companions.
Joining The Companions in Whiterun
To begin your journey toward lycanthropy, head to Whiterun and visit Jorrvaskr, the iconic mead hall of The Companions. Speak with Kodlak Whitemane or Aela the Huntress to express your interest in joining their ranks as a shield-sibling. You will be assigned a few introductory tasks to prove your combat efficiency and loyalty to the guild.
Completing initial radiant quests given by senior members builds your reputation within Jorrvaskr. These beginner assignments typically involve clearing out beast dens or rescuing local citizens across Skyrim. Once you establish your reliability, the guild leadership will invite you to participate in major story contracts.
Proving Honor and Unlocking the Blood Ritual
After completing your initial trial quest titled Proving Honor, you will officially be inducted into The Companions. Shortly after, Skjor will approach you at night to discuss a secret meeting inside the Underforge. Following Skjor beneath the Skyforge reveals the inner circle's secret identity as active werewolves.
Inside the Underforge, Aela performs the ritual that grants you the blood of the beast. Drinking from the basin immediately triggers your first wild transformation in the streets of Whiterun. This brief frenzy eventually subsides, waking your character up in the wilderness alongside Aela.
Understanding Werewolf Abilities and Powers
Becoming a werewolf grants unique gameplay advantages that can dramatically alter combat encounters. You gain access to the Beast Form power, allowing you to transform once per day for a limited duration. While transformed, your health and stamina increase significantly, enabling devastating power attacks against groups of enemies.
Defeating hostiles and feeding on their corpses extends the duration of your beast form while granting perk points. These points unlock passive bonuses through the Werewolf Perk Tree, including enhanced damage, terrifying howls, and bonus health regeneration. Additionally, your lycanthropy provides a permanent 100% resistance to all diseases, even when in human form.
Managing the Drawbacks and Curing Lycanthropy
Despite the combat advantages, being a werewolf comes with a few noteworthy trade-offs during everyday play. The most prominent downside is losing the Well Rested bonus when sleeping in beds, which slows skill progression slightly. Furthermore, citizens and guards will comment negatively on your unkempt appearance or wolfish demeanor.
If you eventually decide that the beast blood is a burden, the main Companions questline offers a path toward redemption. Completing the final quest, Glory of the Dead, allows players to cleanse their soul using Glenmoril Witch heads. Choosing to cure yourself permanently removes the beast form while restoring standard rest bonuses.
